Where We Live Now

I said home, said, back home.
After the visit, going home,
back down home, said, I’ll leave
this at home, when I meant hotel
or I’ll stay in the guest room
at my son’s home before
I leave for home, that place
in the mind, on the road,
destination always changing.

I’m thinking home and me,
home and us the same.
My children means place
and home of the past, and now
their homes; they live here,
we live there, under cover
of self, wanderers of place
not knowing home, except
when together for a while,

          or an old friend
I haven’t seen for years
feels like coming home.
