The Jan Seale Award

We at La Noria are proud to announce the establishment of the Jan Seale Award, which will be presented every other January (beginning in 2015) to a writer from south Texas published in this journal whose work is judged to be a superior literary celebration of our culture. The author awarded will receive a check for $300 and a small statuette at La Noria’s biennial celebratory dinner.

The award is named for Jan Seale, resident of McAllen and 2012 Texas Poet Laureate. For decades, Mrs. Seale has dedicated herself not only to the crafting of her own extraordinary poetry and prose, but also to the nurturing of local writers. For her ongoing graciousness and advocacy, we are honored that our prize will bear her name.
